Soviet Realism Painting
THE EXHIBITION TO LOAN
Communist paradise in paintings of the 20th century
During the totalitarian rule of Lenin and Stalin the most popular subject in the arts was nation-wide love to communist leaders, Lenin and Stalin.
The important component of communist propaganda at the beginning of the Soviet history was an idea that Soviet leaders play the key role in the life of every citizen, the leader’s image being in the center of the painting.
Starting with 1950s, when Stalin’s cult was denounced the propaganda shifted the focus from the leaders’ portraits to average people as scene of happy communist work in agriculture and industry, as well as images of Soviet people in communist paradise became the most influential tool of communist propaganda in the arts.
The exhibition contains 10 posters, 12 porcelain figures and 74 paintings of the most famous artists who worked in the Soviet Realism genre from 1921 until 1986.
